Circe
Title: Circe
Author: Madeline Miller
Genre: Mythology, Fantasy
Blurb:
Circe is the daughter of Helios, a Greek Titan. Throughout mythology Circe is mentioned briefly, and sporadically, but she is very important. She interacted with some of the most well-known heroes, and had an interesting history of her own which often goes overlooked because she plays a minor role in the tales of others.

My Review:
I absolutely love Greek Mythology. I grew up reading (and loving) anything written by Rick Riordan. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Odyssey, the Iliad, and Medea. I always found Circe to be an interesting character, even though we only see small pieces of her life on the island. I was very excited when I saw that a novel was created focused on her story. Miller's writing is very easy and calming to read. She was born to be a story-teller, and it was easy to get lost in the world she created. I particularly loved the way that she knitted together the other well-known stories so seamlessly.
This novel is perfect if you like a good underdog story. Circe was an outcast among the gods and titans. She was taken for granted and underestimated much of her life, but she found a way to achieve the life she wanted against all odds. She put in the hard work to make her life worth meaning, and never lost what made her unique: her compassion, and appreciation for life, no matter how short or fleeting (especially compared to her infinite years). She achieved amazing feats, and obtained all that she desired and left her family and the world to wonder how she did it.
